To be fair, I'd say Murphy is much more "Hugo Chavez" rather than bin Laden.

Speaking of "checks and balances" does anyone remember the campaign to save the filibuster in 2004/2005 or so? There was a website savephil.com with a cartoon character named "phil e. buster" and his friends "checks" and "balances" who were in danger from Senate Republicans. Was all run by some democratic leaning 527. Might be worth resurrecting to highlight the about face the Democrats have made on the 'obstructionist' issue since they gained the majority.

It was probably accidental. He was following bin Laden's talking points a bit TOO closely.

Rep. Emanuel's quote could be written off as an offhanded joke. There really isn't a question about Mr. Murphy's though - he seriously thinks that the U.S. Senate is "threat".

Murphy's 4th grade teacher, who undoubtably taught Mr. Murphy about 'checks and balances', would be dismayed.

Rahm Emanuel had a similar quote in the NY Times, “As an amateur student of constitutional history and as a member of Congress, I have come to the conclusion that the Senate was a historic mistake.” http://tinyurl.com/269h83
