House Speaker Jim Amann, D-Milford, should not be allowed to speak without a Sherpa guide. Monday on the Dan Lovallo Show on WDRC, Amann tried to explain how he has come full circle on the  proposed ”Three Strikes” amendment that he and his fellow Democrats opposed last week as part of the Governor’s comprehensive criminal justice reform.

Speaker Amann, who is going to announce his plans to run for Governor on Thursday in Milford, was made to eat his own words when Lovallo played back an interview he had with Brad Davis in a previous interview on the subject (see text below). Amann then compared our criminal justice system to Communist China and much more and you well see, dear readers:

Growing Our Ranks

January 29, 2008 By: Heath Category: TER Info No Comments →

getitfirstsmall.gifThe goal at The Everyday Republican has always been to be much more than the stereotypical “official blog”. We’ve worked hard to post news and insightful commentary that makes a substantive contribution to the blogosphere in Connecticut. And we’ve worked to reshape the Connecticut blogosphere to give it more balance and make The Everyday Republican a hub for Nutmeg State moderates and conservatives who are tired of the arrogance and shamelessness of the Democratic supermajority in the General Assembly, and the misguided policies that they pursue.

Today we are announcing that we are adding two front page writers to The Everyday Republican, both of whom are well known in the blogosphere: Headless Horseman and Ichabod Crane. Both writers will bring a fresh look at the news and notes of the day, as well as add new content to the site. Look for their additions to the site in the coming days as The Everyday Republican continues to grow and thrive.

Rob Russo of Bridgeport was nominated this evening to be the Republican candidate in the 22nd Senate District, to fill the seat of Senator/Mayor Bill Finch, who reluctantly resigned his post as Senator last week.  Rob ran in 2004 and 2006, coming within 2,500 votes of the heavily-entrenched Bill Finch.

Russo, 32, lives in Bridgeport and practices law in Southport.  According to his biography, Mr. Russo has a wide range of interests and activities, from serving on the Board of Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo to being a licensed private pilot.

Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell is announcing her endorsement for Arizona Republican Senator John McCain at this hour.  With just over a week before Connecticut Republicans head to the polls to vote in Connecticut’s Presidential Preference Primary, this long-awaited endorsement will certainly bolster the Arizonan’s campaign.

Pictured above from 2006 with then-Congressman Rob Simmons, McCain has been a regular visitor to the Nutmeg State for Reps. Simmons, Johnson, Shays each time they were up for re-election, as well as Governor Rell in 2006.  McCain is polling extremely well in Connecticut, with the recently reported UCONN/Hartford Courant poll putting McCain at 39% in the state, well ahead of his rival Presidential candidates.  Many observers, of course, will remember that McCain won CT in 2000, defeating then-Governor George W. Bush.

Update: Lt. Governor Michael Fedele has also endorsed Senator McCain.
