John McCain: Republican Frontrunner
With the results mostly in, at this point, and all that’s left to do is count the rest of the votes, it is clear that Senator John McCain of Arizona is the frontrunner for the Republican Presidential nomination. Gov. Mitt Romney’s results have underperformed expectations and MSNBC is running a quote from an unnamed Romney campaign official that indicates the Romney campaign may be coming to an end tomorrow. The surprising finisher in this race tonight is Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas, who has done very well for himself in the Old Confederacy.
The Republican nomination, which not so long ago was fueling speculation of a brokered convention, all of the sudden has a presumptive nominee. The Democratic nomination, which not so long ago was just a win away from either an Obama or a Clinton landslide now seems ripe for a brokered convention.
