Never a Dull Moment
Super Tuesday is over and the results are in. Senator John McCain has posted clear victories in every region of the country and seems poised to take the Republican nomination. We’ve colorized the map to reflect each candidate’s victories - Huckabee in green, Romney in blue, and McCain in yellow. Real Clear Politics has the delegate count as follows:
- McCain - 604
- Romney - 244
- Huckabee - 187
- Paul - 14
In Connecticut, the Republican map is fairly boring in terms of winners - almost everywhere it was McCain. More interesting is the above McCain Margin of Victory map. As predicted, most of the action in the state was on the Democratic side. There is a case to be made that there are two wings of the Connecticut Democratic Party - Lamont and Lieberman. The places where Joe Lieberman did well in the 2006 primary - the Waterbury to Bridgeport corridor and in the hinterlands - Thompson to Norwich - were the places where Senator Clinton showed strength yesterday. The Lamont-types went for Barack Obama. For all the rhetoric and chest thumping, Obama is an upper-middle class phenomenon.
The map that isn’t boring is our USA map where we’ve tracked the results for each primary. Be sure to check it out!
