Amann for Governor Already Struggling
The fledgling gubernatorial campaign of House Speaker Jim Amann (D-Milford) is already struggling, barely a week after it was announced. The photos that ran in the newspaper after the announcement was of a hearse, not the Speaker, and his infamous “crusher” video has again soared in popularity as people start to examine what Jim Amann is all about. Then, the editors of the Hartford Courant picked up their collective pen and wrote an editorial entitled, “Covering His Bases” for today’s newspaper. It speaks for itself:
We are underwhelmed. Mr. Amann has not demonstrated that he’s governor material. Part charming schmoozer and part street fighter, the speaker is best known for insulting Gov. M. Jodi Rell (last year he crossed the line by calling her “a very dishonorable human being” in a fight over a bonding package), for trying to shake down lobbyists to make donations to his favorite charity, and for telling bloggers that he would “crush any idiot” who would run against him for his legislative seat. Such low statesmanship Connecticut doesn’t need.
If this keeps up, Jim Amann’s run for Governor is going to be shorter than Chris Dodd’s run for President. The biggest winner, of course, is our State’s perpetual “lady-in-waiting”, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal. Before he gets ready to walk to the courthouse to file lawsuits against the few remaining people in the state that he hasn’t already sued, he must certainly be laughing at Milford’s prodigal son.
