Simply Baffling
Patty Hearst’s dog is competing in the Westminster Dog Show. Seriously - that Patty Hearst.
The star turn came 34 years after she captivated the nation with a far more shocking one: from newspaper heiress to Symbionese Liberation Army captive to gun-wielding militant best remembered in publicity photos and grainy black-and-white footage of a bank robbery.
She was sentenced to seven years in prison for the attempted heist, but President Carter commuted the sentence after two. One of Bill Clinton’s last acts as president was to pardon her and more than 100 others.
Now years later, she tasted victory at one of the nation’s oldest competitions in the wide world of sports. Her entry, Diva won a ribbon for Best of Opposite Sex in the French bulldog competition, the runner-up prize.
