RNC Chairman Visits Connecticut
The Chairman of the Republican National Committee, Mike Duncan, was in Hartford today for a luncheon with Republican activists from across the Nutmeg State. Nearly 100 attendees listened to Chairman Duncan speak about his outlook on the 2008 Presidential campaign and Congressional campaigns.
Chairman Duncan spoke first about the life and record of Sen. John McCain, calling him an “authentic American Hero”. He highlighted McCain’s principled stand on pork barrel spending and his national security credentials. Duncan emphasized the overwhelming importance of experience in the next American President, and about how Sen. McCain was the only Presidential candidate who was ready to lead on Day One.  On the Democrats, he noted that Sen. Clinton “will say anything to get elected” and that Sen. Obama was “the wrong kind of change”.
He heaped high praise on the only Republican Congressman from New England, Rep. Chris Shays from Connecticut’s 4th District and pledged the full support of the RNC to the Shays re-election effort. Chairman Healy summarized the event this way: “Our candidates for Congress and the State Legislature are energized and ready to tackle the important issues facing our State in this election,” said Healy. “We are grateful that Chairman Duncan came to visit and we hope to make Connecticut a ‘Red’ State in 2008.”
