No Place for Quakers
With just a single night between us and Election Day in Pennsylvania, Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. Clinton remain engaged in their intra-party knife fight for the Democratic Presidential nomination. The conventional wisdom is that Sen. Obama will be nearly impossible to defeat, as Sen. Clinton would have to dominate the remainder of the primaries and win significant defections of Superdelegates from Barack Obama in order to achieve the magic number of 2,024 delegates. But the conventional wisdom also says that Sen. Clinton is going to win the Pennsylvania Primary tomorrow and fight on to the Convention floor in Denver, if necessary (Talk about your Rocky Mountain highs).
And so, with their candidates at loggerheads, the two campaigns will take their battle to streets of embittered small towns like Bradford (home of the Zippo lighter), the infamous I-70 pit stop, Breezewood, PA, and the home of the Altoona Curve, the AA affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, who have won three of their last four games. But as always, much attention will fall on the historic metropolis of Philadelphia - the City of Brotherly Love, the Phillies, the Flyers, and heart-stopping cheesesteaks.
Philadelphia has a history of underhandedness when it comes time to vote, and will no doubt be under high suspicion if the results are close tomorrow. The good folks at ElectionJournal.org will be on the ground in Philly, observing the elections and watching to see just how the so-called “street money” is spent. Be sure to follow along with them during the day to get a first-hand read on dirty dealing.
Once the Keystone State is done voting, it will be quickly on to North Carolina and Indiana for the Presidential contenders before they sprint to the June 8th finish line. We’ll keep you updated throughout the day tomorrow, and for the rest of the primary season.
We’ll also be soon updating our POTUS ‘08 National Electoral Map with polling information.
