The Everyday Republican

Saturday Wrap Up

The 2008 Prescott Bush Awards Dinner proved a success last night, with more than 500 Republicans coming to Stamford on a warm summer evening to enjoy the company of old friends, new acquaintances, and fellow Republicans.  Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty gave a terrific speech – he really is an exciting speaker.  It’s no wonder why the Great Mentioners regularly include him amongst the names of potential VPs.

Governor Rell wasn’t there, as is pointed out in the Courant today, along with the bit of anonymous snark from one attendee (which Genghis Conn has made the Quote of the Day): “The governor of Minnesota made it.”  The criticism isn’t unwarranted, but she – like a lot of folks – is on vacation this week.

The photos from the Bush Dinner are posted in our Photo Gallery - they aren’t fabulous, frankly.  The lighting was tough in the ballroom.  I think a telephoto lens and a better flash are going to be high on the “To Buy” list before we make the trip out to Minneapolis for the Republican National Convention in September.  But while you are looking at the photo gallery, take a few minutes to scroll through some of the old photos from 2008 Prescott Bush Award winner Wally Barnes.  It’s like finding a time capsule.

Chairman Healy is down in New Haven today sparring with former candidate for U.S. Senate Ned Lamont.  He was looking forward to it.  He’ll have his take on the Bush Dinner, and that event, here either later today or tomorrow.

Last but not least, take a few minutes to test-drive our new www.ctgop.org.  The new design is much nicer on the eyes.
