Fighting Back
After yesterday’s excitement, the delegation is ready to get back to the Convention Hall and see tonight’s lineup of speakers – Sen. Fred Thompson, perhaps President Bush remotely, and Senator Joe Lieberman.
The fallout from being attacked yesterday has mostly faded, though we’ll be under very different security procedures for the rest of the week. We’ve got photos from the incident at our photo gallery, http://www.flickr.com/photos/ctgop. Former Congressman Simmons and Chairman Healy have been stuck on the telephone with media inquiries almost nonstop since the altercation – with Healy’s only break coming this morning when he led a contingent of CTGOPers to give blood for the hurricane relief effort.
Healy’s money quote of the day came when he was talking to FOXNEWS:
“These knuckle-heads crossed the line,” Christopher Healy, head of the Connecticut State Republican Party, told FOX News.com. “We’re for free speech, not free bleach. We respect their right to protest, but do it civilly. Pushing, shoving, spitting, throwing harmful chemicals? It’s not the American way.”
The program for the evening has the CT delegation jazzed about the night. Sen. Lieberman should give Connecticut a few minutes in the spotlight to cheer for our fellow Nutmegger.
The other big news we are following is the absolutely repulsive treatment given to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin by liberal bloggers and media who’ve magnified their outrageousness. Sarah Palin has more executive experience than Barack Obama and she has already shown herself to be a woman of poise and strength. The attacks on Palin and her daughter have been repugnant and it has only strengthened the resolve of Republicans across the country.
We’ll have more from the Convention hall tonight.
