Mike Lawlor’s Sense of Justice

Sometimes State Rep. Mike Lawlor,  D-East Haven, can’t help himself, usually when a reporter calls seeking comment on some criminal justice issue.  In today’s Hartford Courant, Mike Lawlor crystallized why he is the most dangerous man in the Legislature.  He showed what truly motivates him, other than being quoted in the media, and how he perceives the world.

It was disclosed that State Police were pressing charges against Jason and Rebecca Matteau of Jewett City, two parents in their 20’s who made a horrible mistake that will haunt them to the end of their lives. A gun they owned got in the hands of their two-year-old son, Wyatt, who shot himself in the head and died this past August.  The gun, according to authorities, was not secured and the impact is beyond comprehension. The couple will be prosecuted.

Now, that would be enough for one day. But Mike Lawlor had to be quoted and to give his take on things. This is what he said: “The loss they experienced is very tragic and very real,” said Lawlor. “But at the same time, they broke the law and there has to be a consequence.”

Thanks Mike for your input.

Now, when two career thugs raped, tortured and burned three people to death in Cheshire a year ago, Lawlor did nothing but make excuses for the criminal justice system which he has stewardship over. Lawlor fought every attempt to have a clean mandatory sentence law put on the books or a workable death penalty. Lawlor has also been the cheerleader for bringing convicts back to Connecticut from out-of-state rock piles.

But two parents who made a mistake, well they have to be made an example of. They have to be convicted and shamed to show the anti-Second Amendment crowd that people can’t be trusted with guns. Career criminals, gang bangers and pedophiles? Well, we need programs for them.

The Mattheau’s will be paying a price forever and the charges against them will go through the system. But do we need an elected official pontificating over their misery? Does this couple who are not powerful have to read what a powerful politician thinks about their abilities as father and mother? Mike Lawlor is not a parent.  He has no children. Still, he can’t help himself.

At long last Representative, do you have no sense of decency?
