News Flash – Amann May Not Take “Job”

The Associated Press reported moments ago that ex-Speaker of the House James Amann may forgo taking a $120,000 position with the House Democrats.

Amann has come under withering criticism from Republicans and the Editorial board of several newspapers, including the Hartford Courant and the Connecticut Post.

“He certainly doesn’t need this as he’s starting off as speaker,” said Amann, adding how he may make an announcement later Tuesday about his future.

Current Speaker Chris Donovan, D-Meriden, announced the hire late Friday,  on a day often reserved for rolling out controversial news. Amann’s job duties are vague but would allow him to campaign for Governor and to continue is his capacity as a fundraiser for charity.

Now, on the biggest day for Democrats in the country, Jim Amann can’t help but be the big story here in Connecticut. His appointment raised several intriging questions, as to whether a deal was struck by Donovan to allow Amann to gracefully not seek a third term as Speaker.

But many Democrats privately grimaced about the hiring and no elected Democrats would go on the record defending it.

Stay tuned. Through the efforts of many who have written and called the House Democratic office, we may have saved the taxpayers some money.
