Dodd To Save Us from Ourselves
It was a little story today in the Hartford Courant, buried in the business section, but it speaks broadly on how bizarre U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd is behaving these days.
Sen. Dodd wrote a letter, Senators are big on writing letters and leaking them to show us they are working, to his friends at Fannie Mae – urging them to make sure they pay attention to the rules to help renters.
“I urge you to adopt a policy as soon as possible that provides similar protections to families renting homes who have been caught in this crisis through no fault of their own,” Dodd wrote.
Actually the fault lies with Chris Dodd and the serpents at Fannie and Freddie who pushed more loans out the door than they knew could be paid, bought other worthless investment instruments and sold them to pension funds and other clueless buyers. It was Fannie and Freddie which Dodd defended right up to the time both sought federal protection and assistance.
Now, Senator Dodd acts as if none of this happened and certainly none of it can be traced to his absence while campaigning for the President or his subsequent acquiesense to the wishes of President Obama to keep priming the pump with another trillion dollars in taxpayer money.
Many people will soon become renters because of Dodd’s support of policies, along with the Bush Administration, that supported putting more Americans in homes, homes they couldn’t afford. But Dodd also opposed reforms offered by Sen. John McCain and the Bushies to reign in Fannie and Freddie years ago. Dodd and Congressman Barney Frank, D-MA, have long been the centurions guarding the Fannie and Freddie Empire.
Still no sign of those missing mortgage documents.
