Rebimbas Wins 70th State House Special

Update 8:12pm: Results in 70th State House special election – Rosa Rebimbas receives 1043 votes to Democrat Kevin McSherry’s 965. Republicans hold the seat. Rebimbas receives 52% of the vote.
Update 8:05pm: Campaign anticipating about 1700 voters. Results should arrive shortly.
Update 7:45pm: The word from Naugatuck is that turnout is – not surprisingly – extremely low, perhaps just barely eeking over 10% of all those eligible. Stay tuned for results.
The special election in Naugatuck’s 70th State House District is being held today despite the arrival of the punishing snowstorm that has traffic snarled and schools cancelled all across the state.
The election pits Republican Rosa Rebimbas against Kevin McSherry in a battle to replace Kevin DelGobbo, the popular State Rep. turned Commissioner of the Department of Public Utility Control.
Early reports from observers in Naugatuck indicate that turnout is extremely light. Local Republicans have pressed numerous weather-appropriate vehicles into service, shuttling voters to the polls.
As always, the polling stations will remain open until 8pm.
