Election Day Naugatuck: Bronko Wins

bronko3

Incumbent Mayor Mike Bronko has won the Republican Party primary in Naugatuck by a vote total of 633 to 393.  He was matched up in a tough primary against former Naugatuck Mayor Ron San Angelo, a popular figure in the Borough of Naugatuck who left in 2007 to take a state job.

The decisive victory for Bronko means that he has earned the right to run against Democrat Bob Mezzo, who won the Democratic primary tonight.

The election ends a tumultuous few weeks for Naugatuck Republicans.  After former State Rep. Kevin DelGobbo was appointed to be the Commissioner of DPUC, the local GOP rallied around Rosa Rebimbas in an electoral battle with Democrat Kevin McSherry.  Rebimbas managed to win the race despite a punishing snow storm that made getting to the polls difficult.  State Rep. Rebimbas was sworn in on Friday last week.
