Dodd Has a Friend in Newsweek
There is no question that Sen. Chris Dodd is in full bore retrofit these days. Through his indifference and dereliction of duty, Sen. Dodd allowed our financial systems to collapse. Now, with Sen. Ted Kennedy ailing, Dodd has grabbed the big government baton and declared he will bring the health care reforms needed to the masses.
And almost by fate and timing, Newsweek led by fawning insider Evan Thomas have laid out a beautiful profile of Sen. Dodd in the June 8th edition of Newsweek – the one with Oprah Winfrey on the cover. If you don’t believe in the liberal media conspiracy, clip this gem and file under “we protect our own.”
Not even David Lightman, the former reporter for the Hartford Courant, would have lavished such praise on our Senator or explained away his unethical and illegal behavior to feather his nest with sweetheart mortgage deals, a small investment that tripled in Ireland, corporate board member tribute for his wife and millions in special interest campaign contributions.
Here are some highlights from the team of Thomas, Mark Hosenball and Suzanne Smalley:
“So far, none of the allegations have added up to much.”
‘Chris Doddd grew up in a large Irish Catholic family listening to his father’s tales of crusading for justice.”
“Dodd is known for his personal loyalty – especially when a friend is sick or dying. He has sat for hours by the beds of friends dying of cancer.”
The only Connecticut Democrat who features prominently in this nonsense if two-time Gubernatorial candidate Bill Curry, who is always looking to get into print. Curry, the apostle of virtue who believes everyone is corrupt, except himself, gave this account of why Sen. Dodd’s father, Thomas Dodd, was censured by the U.S. Senate in 1967.
“He (Tom Dodd) just couldn’t make ends meet, ” said Curry, who offers this historical context, even though he was in seventh grade at the time. “Two houses, six kids, and the amount of money was just so small. There was no rule against it, he had a testimonial and he grabbed a few grand to pay a couple of mortgage payments. It was just somebody trying to keep his head above water. It wasn’t someone on a yaht or out with a lobbyist or living a life that remotely approached luxury. There was something so sad about it all.”
Bill, I wouldn’t bringing up mortgage payments when you are talking about Chris Dodd or try to sweep away what Thomas Dodd did, which was shift signifcant t dollars from his cammpaingn coffers to his personal use. The Senate doesn’t censure for nothing, especially in 1967.
Curry then goes on to soft-pedal the effort Dodd put into getting a Presidential pardon for Ed Downie, the latter’s drinking pal and man who convinced Bucky Kessinger to help the Senator buy his cottage in Ireland for a song. No mention of three or more Republican candidates running or comment from those other than Republicans who have questioned Dodd’s truthfullness or the pending Senate Ethics Investigation.
You can just see Thomas and Curry having lunch at the Occidental having a good laugh about it all.
