Block that Co-Op
It’s never a good day when the White House allows a Cabinet Secretary to throw up a white flag on a signature issue of its Presidency. Barely 12 hours after Health and Human Services Secretary Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius had raised the idea that the “public option” would be dropped from the Obamacare health care reform plan for a hybrid co-op structure, the liberals were going ape. Howard Dean weighed in and now the Democrats are in partial retreat on trying to nationalize our health care system.
The Obama health care plan is collecting arrows fast. The town hall meetings are reflective of more than a few taxpayer groups. The polling must be bad, and that is why the administration is starting to float alternatives. Sebelius’s comments went viral fast and her almost casual air drove the true lefties off the deep end. Clearly they got to the White House who put out the red flag.
Now, one can argue who is really calling teh shot son health care and with Team Obama blanching so quickly, clearly Nancy Pelosi, Henry Waxman and Barney Frank are still running the show.
Meaning – single-payer is still on the table and big government health care is still the goal. Forget that an overwhelming number of Americans oppose it. Forget the fact that there are not the votes in the U.S. Senate (just ask the other Countrywide Senator – Kent Conrad of North Dakota). Forget the fact that there isn’t even one bill – just one crazy 1,003-page draft and a President who thinks he can just hold meetings until we give up.
And what about this co-op idea? It’s just another name for the same bad deal. Co-op sounds benign. You buy vegatble and books at co-ops. You can live in a co-op in Manhatten and still be rich. But a co-op under the Obama means a large subsidy for a very large non-profit that will always be fed.
Meanwhile on the home front, only U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D-4, is putting his head about the hedge wirer. He is planning another meeting on the health care issue in a few weeks. The rest of the Connecticut delegation is sitting this one out.
