FIC Represents CT in Right to Life March

January 28, 2008 By: Heath Category: Down the Blogroll, News No Comments →

The Family Institute of Connecticut’s Peter Wolfgang met with President Bush last week at a meeting of pro-lifers at the White House.  From FIC Blog:

The occasion was a Breakfast in Honor of the 35th Annual March for Life. For the first time ever, key pro-life leaders were invited to the White House on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade to be personally encouraged by the President in their efforts “to build a society where each one of us is welcomed in life and protected in law.” . . .

Upon entering the room President Bush was greeted by a hearty round of applause that would be repeated at several points during his speech. Looking at those in attendance, “I see faces that shine with a love for life,” he told us. “You’re here because you know that all life deserves to be protected. And as you begin your march, I’m proud to be standing with you,” he said. . .

Throughout his talk the President was friendly, smiling, winking at familiar faces in the crowd, a man very much at ease with himself and the world around him. Considering the incredible burden of his position and the outrageous vitriol of his opponents, it was a very reassuring sight.

All Iowa in CT Repub Blogosphere

The right-minded blogosphere in Connecticut is all about Iowa today.

California Yankee has continuing coverage of Iowa fallout, including an important reminder not to forget about Wyoming’s caucuses on Saturday.

Don Pesci has a great article about the Hillary vs Obama Hit Job.  Best line: “So far, the dirt is not sticking. Clinton operatives are claiming it may stick when and if the Republican nominee meets Obama in the general election, an eventuality that the smears circulated by the Clinton husband and wife tag team are designed to prevent. Skeletons surface. Apparently, the silver tongued Clintons are confident they can deal with their own surfacing skeletons.”

Headless Horseman has a great one about how Dodd’s goose is cooked“Dodd finished DEAD LAST among Democratic presidential contenders, embarrassing himself with obtaining 0.02% of the vote, and one whole delegate (presumably because they can’t cut a delegate into pieces).”

Also, you should take the time to vote at http://www.whodoyouwanttohaveabeerwith.com/vote.html for which Presidential candidate you’d like to have a beer with.

We are also going to add another layer of depth here to TER, by posting links from some of the high quality conservative and moderate GOP blogs from across the country.  Look for that in the coming days.

It’s Election Day in Iowa.

With the Iowa Caucuses slated to begin at 7pm Central, the chattering class on television is abuzz with wall-to-wall, all day Iowa coverage (or at least one would assume - we blew out a fuse here at the office and the televisions went dark).  1000 miles away (but more or less the same weather - clear skies and bitter cold), Connecticut’s politically active are tuned in to see what the Hawkeye Staters will do this evening at their ubitquitous caucuses.

Those interested in tracking the Iowa experience should visit New London Calling, as he is sloshing across Iowa for former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson’s campaign.  He has been posting updates periodically about what he sees and what is going on - well worth a read.

RealClearPolitics has the final polls before the caucuses posted today.  On the Republican side, it looks like it may be Governor Mike Huckabee in a photo finish this evening.  A Zogby 3 day Tracking number has Huckabee up by 6% over Governor Mitt Romney, though yesterday’s Strategic vision poll had Romney up by 2% and a CNN poll had him up by 3%.  Republicans, unlike Democrats in the Hawkeye State, do not participate in the “realignment” process, so once Republicans show up at their local caucus location, write their candidate’s name on a piece of paper, put it in a hat, and then wait for them to be tallied, the world will find out whether the Romney GOTV machine has worked or not.

For the Democrats, Illinois Senator Barack Obama seems to have edged past Senator Clinton in the most recent polls, with the RCP Average showing a narrow 4.2% lead for Obama.  Senator Clinton’s much-vaunted Get Out The Vote organization has its work cut out for it, but its cold and clear in Iowa, meaning that elderly Democratic women may well turn out in the numbers necessary for the New York Senator.  At the same time, Obama’s bedrock are the so-called “young voters” that are always talked about and never seem to show up.  Tonight we shall see if Obama - though light on specifics and heavy on the rhetoric of “hope” - can pull off the upset of Senator Clinton.

The Ron Paul Blimp is Coming

December 10, 2007 By: Heath Category: Down the Blogroll No Comments →

And now for our first ever “Down the Blogroll” here at the new site, the right-leaning Connecticut blogosphere has been downtheblogroll.gifproducing some quality work over the weekend.

Don Pesci over at Connecticut Commentary weighed in on the emerging Sen. Tom Gaffey scandal, commenting thus: “Not for nothing did the ancient Greeks portray the confusion Eros sows in men’s minds by the wild goatskin clad Pan, god of the grape. Wine makes you woozy; so do women, recently divorced, who compare their business associates to Gods. Heady stuff that.”

Judy Aron at Consent of the Governed properly warns Connecticut that there may be a Ron Paul blimp hovering over our state at some point in the near future.  This appears to not be a joke.  I would estimate that we are due for a flyover between noon and 2pm (approx) on Friday.

Danbury Politics is reporting on a News-Times story about former State Rep. Tony Nania who may be interested in a primary challenge to Danbury State Senator David Cappiello, for the right to take on one term Congressman Chris Murphy in the 5th Congressional District.  Chairman Healy is quoted in the story, saying: “Cappiello has done an outstanding job as frontrunner and is a very strong candidate,” said Chris Healy, chairman of the state Republican Party. “Nania certainly has the qualifications for the job, but he has a lot of catching up to do.”

Eye on Greenwich has favorable reviews from Mayor Giuliani’s tough “Meet the Press” interview on NBC yesterday.
